Modern medicine is constantly evolving and offers a huge number of non-surgical methods of dental alignment. There are many different ways to correct a bite, and teeth flaws but as we see, dental braces (ติดเครื่องมือจัดฟัน in Thai language) are still the most optimal and effective option. With the development of modern technologies, braces systems gradually become smaller, almost invisible and much more comfortable, but they remain just as strong and reliable. Ten years ago, one could only dream about it, but in this article we will focus on some other ways to align teeth or fix dental bite.

These are overlays on the teeth, small plastics 0.5-0.7 mm thick, whose main task is to improve the aesthetic appeal of a smile. For example, if the teeth are yellowish or have chips, irregularities, one tooth is longer than the other, there are gaps between the teeth, the veneers can easily hide these flaws. In other words, physically veneers do not correct the bite, they only mask the defects! From the moment you take a cast to the installation of veneers takes about two weeks – and a dazzling smile is ready!

Important note! The veneers have another big disadvantage: When they are installed, tooth enamel becomes very hard, so if you decide to take them off, you will have to spend time, effort, and money to restore it.

The alternative to veneers is lumineers. They have approximately the same effect, but do not grind enamel, so they can be removed at any time. Lumineers are much thinner and therefore can’t be used to mask serious defects.

Aligners for alignment of teeth

They are made of transparent polymer and are removable caps, so they are also called caps. To make them, the doctor will need a photo of your face and a cast of your jaw. After that, a 3D model is created on the basis of these data, and then the caps themselves. The treatment will take about a year, while eating and brushing your teeth the aligners should be removed.

In general, the aligners are just a simplified alternative to braces, which is relevant in very mild clinical cases, when, for example, a tooth is not turned around its axis. In the treatment with the aligners, the doctor is almost not involved in the process, because the whole set of caps is sent by the laboratory immediately for the entire course of treatment. Therefore, in case of unplanned deviations, for example, if you have not worn some aligner for a long time and your teeth “spaced out”, the whole process must be started anew. This involves additional financial and time costs.

Traditionally, it is believed that due to transparency, the aligners should be invisible, but this is not quite true. Their owner is doomed to constant questions from others “what’s in your mouth?” Therefore, in most cases, it is better to choose classic miniature ceramic braces, which match the natural color of teeth.

It is a silicone splint, soft, flexible, which easily takes the form of a jaw. To ensure that the teeth are in the correct position, the trainers are attached to both the upper and lower jaws. Trainers relieve excessive muscle pressure, bring the tongue into the correct position and form nasal breathing, eliminate snoring. Their advantages are that they are worn at night (during the day, they can be worn only for an hour), do not cause physical discomfort and cost several times less than braces.

There is an initial and final model of trainers, each of them should be worn for 6-8 months. In addition, there are trainers for children and adults. Children can wear the trainer from as early as 5-8 years old, and it is better to start using this method as soon as there is a problem with the wrong dental bite. In the correction of teeth in adults, trainers are used both as an additional element in bracket alignment, and as an independent – to improve the appearance of the front teeth.

This method is absolutely painless. In addition, the care for the trainers is quite simple – they should be stored in a container and cleaned with a toothbrush. The only drawback is that you can’t talk while wearing the trainers, so they are put on at night. They do not eliminate serious bite problems.
